The Feat

Description: Flagg effortlessly catches a bullet from Roland without even looking.

The Calc

Distance

I'll have to angsize, and this is my first time doing it, so yeah, this will need to be evaluated properly. 400?cb=20171125031852

  • Roland = 161px = 1.77m (average human height)
  • Panel height = 445px
  • 2atan(tan(70/2)*(object size = 161px / panel height = 445px)) = 0,339549805 rad, or 19.454 deg
  • Size = 1.77m
  • Distance = 5.1626 meters

METHOD 1 - Cinematic-Time Multiplier

Timeframe

Roland fires the bullet at frame 16 and it reaches Flagg, who is 5.1626m away, at frame 35, as we can see in the stills below:

RolandStill1

RolandStill2

Since the movie runs at 24fps, this means that the bullet took 0.791 seconds to travel a distance of 5.1626m, which would only make it 6.52667509 m / s. However, we can determine the bullet and Flagg's true speed(s) because of this. Roland's gun is similar to an Astra 400, which has a muzzle velocity of 335m/s. Therefore:

(335m/s)/(6.52667509 m / s) = 51.3278194.

This is our multiplier.

FlaggCalc3

  • Flagg's head = 312px = 0.22125m (1/8 of the entire bodylength of an average 25-year old male)
  • Distance that Flagg's arm covered = 438px = 0.31060m

As i said above, Roland's gun is very similar to an Astra 400, which has a muzzle velocity of 335m/s.

  • Timeframe = (5.1626m)/(335m/s) = 15.4107463 milliseconds or 0,0154107463 seconds
  • Distance = 0.31060m
  • V = D / T = (0.31060m)/(15.4707463 milliseconds) = 20.076601 m / s.

Using our multiplier:

(20.076601m/s) * (51.3278194) = 1 030.48815m / s, or Mach 3.0308475.

Supersonic+ reaction speed.

Method 2[]

For this method, i'll compare the bullet's speed to the speed of Flagg's arm and multiply that by the muzzle velocity.

We've already calc'ed the bullet's speed, so let's calc Flagg's arm speed.

He took a mere 4 frames to raise his arm and catch the bullet, as we see below:

Method2Flagg

Method2Flagg2

The movie runs at 24fps, which means that he took 0.166...67 seconds to move his arm up and catch the bullet.

We've already calc'ed how much he moved his arm, so we will use that to calc his speed:

(0.31060m)/(0.16666666667 s) = 1.8636m/s, or 0.30521866 times the bullet's speed, or 102.2482511 m/s

Subsonic

Results[]

  • METHOD 1: Flagg catches a bullet: Mach 3.0308475 reaction speed (Supersonic+)
  • METHOD 2: Flagg catches a bullet: Mach 0.30251866 (Subsonic)
