|“||From Wakan-Tanka, the Great Mystery, comes all power. It is from Wakan-Tanka that the holy man has wisdom and the power to heal and make holy charms. Man knows that all healing plants are given by Wakan-Tanka, therefore they are holy. So too is the buffalo holy, because it is the gift of Wakan-Tanka.||„|

Described as something beyond human comprehension, the Wakan Tanka (Lakota: Wakȟáŋ Tȟá "Great Mystery") is the supreme deity of Lakota lore. As an abstract being, the Wakan Tanka doesn't have a single form but many, for all that is, is apart of the Wakan Tanka.
In stark contrast with other Great Spirits of Native American Mythologies, such as Gitche Manitou and Unetlanvhi, Wakan Tanka isn't seen as a spirit of pure good, but a being that has good, evil and neutral aspects.
