Utsuho Azako is the protagonist of the manga Itsuwaribito. As a child he only told the truth, but because of his honesty he ended up telling some bandits the layout of his family's house where everyone except him was killed, making him an orphan.
Due to this incident, Utsuho blamed himself for their deaths and now believed that honesty was for fools. So he began to tell lies as an Itsuwaribito. Eventually, the Orphanage was attacked by Bandits and the Monk who took care of him was wounded. Luckily Utsuho takes care of the bandits at the last moment.
With the monk on his Deathbed, Utsuho decided to honor the Monk's final wish of wanting to save 1,000 people. He then journeys through the land and decides to try and save people by telling good lies as an Itsuwaribito.
