Calculating the power of Iona's A-SGC got me wanting to make some more calculations for the Verse, so here we go. I'll be taking several feats from ARP, and making some calculations for them. Hopefully we can get some solid numbers for all of the stats needed for all of the major characters.

Ships[]

Kirishima Shines a Laser Pointer on the Hakugei[]

In Chapter 12 of the Manga, there is a long battle in Yokosuka between Kirishima & Haruna, and Iona & Hakugei. The

Kirishima's laser pointer

Hakugei is a modular submarine designed by humanity specifically for battles against, and stealth from, Fleet of Fog warships. During the battle, Kirishima fires her main battery of photon cannons in a single burst, penetrating the Hakugei's bow.

First, we need to know how large Hakugei is, to get a proper scale. Luckily, that's pretty simple. With the cruising module, Hakugei's beam is 80 meters. From this, I found out that the command center of Hakugei is 27.79 meters long, and from this I found out that the distance between the two foremost parts of the bow is 5 meters. This allowed me to estimate the volume of the destroyed section of the submarine.

The destroyed section was 22.5 meters long, 2 meters wide, and 2.3 meters tall.

22.5 x 2 x 2.3 = 103.5 cubic meters destroyed.

I will be using the energy requirments for Pulverisation of Steel. Since the Calculations page gives a range, and I'm not sure which value to use for that, I'll make a lowest and highest estimate. So, one for 310 j/cc and one for 1,000 j/cc

103.5 cubic meters = 103,500,000 cc

Low End:

103,500,000 x 310 = 3.2085 x 10^10

High 8-C: Large Building Level

High End:

103,500,000 x 1,000 = 1.035 x 10^11

8-B: City Block Level

Hmm. That seems very low, considering how the Fog are portrayed... Oh, I know! It's because the beam had to travel through copious amounts of seawater to get to the sub, and seawater absorbs a whopping 7% of a laser's energy per meter!

So, now we need to figure out how far the laser had to travel through seawater to get to Hakugei in the first place. This will be a bit more difficult, but it's managable.

Using an online protractor, I found out that the angle the laser hits the water at is 6 degrees from horizontal.

It is stated in the manga that global warming has caused worldwide flooding by the point the story takes place, and the area of the Yokosuka Bay in ARP is actually the completely submerged remains of modern day Yokosuka.

We can find the depth to Yokosuka Bay's floor from a later shot from the manga, when Haruna and Kirishima use their SGC:

Yokosuka Bay depth

A good ruler for this is the width of the walls of the ocean. At the skinniest points, it is still just wider than the ships themselves, which are 31 meters wide. 31 m / 17 px = 1.82 meters per pixel As a way to check, the buildings are 50 pixels tall, making them 91 meters tall. Reasonable.

Anyway, the total height of the sea is 180 px:

Seawater distance

180 x 1.82 = 327.6 meters

From here, I plugged some values into a triangle side length calculator, and found that the beam would have to travel 3,117 meters to reach Hakugei. That would be 21,819% of the energy from earlier just to reach Hakugei. So overall, when including the actual energy used to destroy the bow section of Hakugei, the earlier values should be multiplied x 219.19.

32,085,000,000 x 219.19 = 7,032,711,150,000 J

103,500,000,000 x 219.19 = 22,686,165,000,000 J

Low End: 7.03 x 10^12 J | High End: 2.27 x 10^13 J

Low End: Low 7-C: Small Town Level

High End: Low 7-C: Small Town Level

I'm more inclined to go with the High End here, considering that the beams went straight through Hakugei like it was nothing, and into the ground, the damage of which we weren't shown, meaning that at best Hakugei only took a very small amount of the lasers energy, and it's stated that if Haruna and Kirishima didn't drastically hold back, they would have completely wiped Yokosuka city off of the face of the Earth. Though, for teiring purposes, I guess it wouldn't really matter, seeing as it'd be the same either way.

So, I'd suggest Small Town Level, likely far higher for this feat.

I'd like to note that this blast was likely a half-second long burst. In the anime, this seems to be about the amount of time the Fog usually fires their photon cannons for in most situations. Based on the results of this calculation, this would mean that the photon cannons would house a 9.71 terajoule laser.

There are two cannons on the turret, but as I need to multiply the ouput of the cannon by two to get a full 1 second timeframe, it balances out.

Haruna and Kirishima Destroy the Yokosuka Port Wall[]

Prior to the above engagement, Haruna and Kirishima fired their photon cannons to destroy the fortress wall surrounding Yokosuka Port.

Demolished wall

Both of them are Kongou-class battleships. According to official stats for Haruna, she is 222 meters long (Oddly, the Arpeggio ships are not the exact same size as the irl ships they are based on, as the real life Kongou-class were just under 214 meters long).

222 meters / 166 px = 1.34 meters per pixel

Explosion radius is 142 px, or 190 meters.

Multi-City Block Level

Note that the two Fog ships are purposely limiting their output here so as not to destroy the city.

Battleship-Tier Super Graviton Cannons[]

The SGCs used by battleships, such as Hyuuga (and thus, Iona), Kongou, Kirishima, and Haruna, are stated to part the ocean all the way to the sea floor. Whenever they do this, they always create a waterless void just wider then their ships, and as long as the range to the opposing ship; This range is usually around 20 kilometers, but can be as far as 100 km.

First, we should find the volume of water displaced.

Average depth of the ocean: 3,688 meters

So, that would mean:

Length of vaporized water: 100,000 meters

Width of vaporized water: 31 meters

Height of vaporized water: 3,688 meters

20,000 x 31 x 3,688 = 11,432,800,000 cubic meters

It takes 2,575,000,000 J/cubic meter to vaporize water.

2,575,000,000 x 11,432,800,000 = ~2.9e19 joules

6-C: Island Level

Note that this is only for the splitting-the-sea, and not for the energy needed to actually damage the target itself, so it's likely higher.

Kongou Becomes the Death Star[]

At the end of the anime, Kongou absorbs several Fog ships of varying classes, and uses their nanomaterials to turn herself into a massive floating ball, with by far the most powerful Super Graviton Cannon seen in Arpeggio of Blue Steel to date. She intercepts I-401 just as they make it to American waters, with them between Kongou and the

Amerifog fleet size

American Fog Fleet.

There is a shot of I-401's radar display showing 54 ships in the American Fog fleet, and the first thing Kongou does is fire her cannon, sweeping the horizon and vaporizing every single one of them.

But that's nothing.

The second time she shoots her SGC in Berserk Mode, she gives us this brilliant shot, similar in nature to the shot in the manga when Iona fires her A-SGC:

Kongou nukes the earth

Well, the calculation for this should be similar in practice to the one for Iona's A-SGC.

Kongou nukes the earth 2

First, I extended out the curvature of the Earth, in order to find its radius in pixels.

Earth Radius: 1,601 px

Earth's Radius is 6,371 km

6,371 / 1,601 = 3.98 km per pixel

The radius of the explosion Kongou creates is 163 pixels.

163 x 3.98 = 648.74 km

Since it's just a normal circle this time, this gives a surface area of 1,320,000 square kilometers, or 1,320,000,000,000 square meters

Much like the A-SGC, this vaporizes the water, which would be down to 3,688 meters, as with the A-SGC (it's the same ocean, so makes sense that this number is the same).

4,868,160,000,000,000 cubic meters of water...

2,575,000,000 J/cubic meter to vaporize water.

2,575,000,000 x 4,868,160,000,000,000 = 1.25 x 10^25

6-A: Continent Level+

Holy-[Demonitized]

Also, I've figured out the size and weight of the Kongoustar. Given that a Nagara-class cruiser is 162.1 meters, this would mean that Kongou's death machine has a diameter of ~727 meters. It's around 30 or so meters thick, meaning the sphere alone weighs roughly 370,300,000 metric tons, assuming the same density as steel. Add to this the weight of the 30 Nagara-class used as part of the support structure, the 8 modified Nagara-class used as energy focusing units, Maya's ship, and Kongou's ship proper, and you get a total of 370,573,570 metric tons. Assuming Kongou can still move at 80 knots while flying this thing, and simply crashing it would yield 3.1 x 10^14 joules.

7-C: Town Level+

Mental Models[]

Iona Runs on Missiles[]

Iona runs on missiles

In Episode 12 of the anime, Iona has to close in on Kongou, who is firing several large cruise missiles at her, by running and jumping from missile to missile. In order for her to do this, she must be running faster than the missile can move, in order to overcome the treadmill effect the missile would have.

At the very least, these should have a similar performance (speed-wise) to a Tomahawk cruise missile, which travels at 550 mph, or ~246 m/s

Subsonic+ Travel Speed

Haruna Goes on a Rampage (Manga)[]

Beginning in Chapter 24 of the manga, Haruna's Mental Model combats a large military detachment sent to the Osakabe Mannor. There are several feats from this.

Firstly, Haruna generates corrosive fields and gravity wells similar to the ones created by the standard corrosive

Haruna destroys apc and building

torpedoes the ships use, and uses them to destroy several armored personnel carriers, as well as defacing the side of the mannor.

The mannor is three stories tall. The standard height of a story is 3 meters, giving us a height of 9 meters. The building is 228 pixels tall.

This means that ~25 pixels = 1 meter

The diameter of the crater in the side of the building is 195 pixels, giving us a radius of 97 pixels. The "crater" is a perfect semi-circle, which makes sense considering that the corrosive fields generated from thanatonium, such as this, always form a perfect sphere.

97 / 25 = 3.88 meters radius

Plugging in the radius to a circle area calculator, I got 47.29 m^2

The wall is likely to be made of concrete, and most exterior walls for buildings such as this are around a full foot thick. The crater includes a lot of interior material, but I'm not sure how to go about that. Unless someone else is willing to go through that, this will be a considerable lowball.

1 ft = 0.3 m

47.29 x 0.3 = 14.19 m^3

14.19 cubic meters = 14,190,000 cubic cm

Corrosion fields created by thanatonium are stated to completely demolish anything caught within its sphere on an atomic level.

Value for atomic destruction of concrete: 4.168E12 j/cc

4,168,000,000,000 x 14,190,000 = 5.914392e+19

6-C: Island Level with Corrosive Field

I'll admit, right up to the end I didn't see that coming, and despite being a lowball for the feat, is way higher than I assumed.

To be honest, I'm not sure how well this feat would apply to AP. Corrosive fields are hax, and bypass durability. They're said to destroy anything within its field, no matter what material or density, which would make this calc kind of moot. However, as they can be used to saturate a Klein field, they clearly have some amount of energy output.

Haruna dura manga

For the APC, that's a bit easier. The gravity well completely crushes the APC, engine and all, which means it is easily within the range of Small Building Level, based on the Durability given for tanks such as the Abrams.

For Durability, Haruna uses her personal Klein field to intercept at least 3 RPGs, 7 tank shells, and copious amounts of small arms fire, and notes that her Klein field isn't anywhere near saturated after all of this. Assuming the RPGs are equivalent in AP to an AT4, and the tank shells are equivalent to an Abram's AP shells, that would give at the very least 114 megajoules of energy.

Small Building Level, likely far higher

Mental Models Dodge Automatic Gunfire[]

On page 20 of Chapter 2 of the Salty Road spinoff series, Takao dodged submachine gun fire from only a few meters away, closing the gap and taking out the gunmen before they can react.

Takao dodges gunfire

During the aforementioned assault on Osakabe Mansion, Haruna is able to dodge tank rounds, anti-materiel rifle rounds, and heavy machine gun fire while carrying Makie.

This, combined with numerous other similar showings, gives a solid case for mental models having Supersonic+ combat speed.

Their reactions, however, would be considerably higher. In the movie sequel to the anime, Arpeggio of Blue Steel: Ars Nova Cadenza, during the battle against Hiei, Takao mentions being able to process information in the order of picoseconds. The fastest recorded visual reaction times for humans is around 120 milliseconds, which would make mental models at least 1,000,000,000 times faster at processing information than the fastest human reactions; Even if we used peak human running speed as a basis, this would mean the Fleet of Fog possess FTL+ perceptions.

This is further evidenced by the Fog being quantum computers capable of instantaneous communication, and their ability to deploy defensive countermeasures such as the Klein field to intercept light-based weaponry at close ranges (note that while the Klein field is generally an "always active" passive defense, there are times when Fog ships have deactivated their fields).

Takao, during a fight with Yamato's mental model in the manga, makes a similar remark just after the below feat, meaning this feat is consistant across both the anime and the manga.

I-402 Blocks a Fog Destroyer's Cannon with her MM's Klein Field[]

In Chapter 43 of the manga, I-402 uses her mental model's Klein field to absorb the energy from a hacked Fog destroyer's main photon cannon.

Shot blocked

This means that at the very least, a mental model's Klein field scales to the power of a Fog destroyer's main armament. Even Fog destroyers are considered powerful enough to completely one-shot any ship made by humanity, making this feat likely Small Town Level at least.

Ashigara and Haguro Go for a Stroll[]

During the climactic battle against Kongou in the manga, Ashigara and Haguro are sunk, and their mental models end up walking and running around the bottom of the sea floor.

Seafloor stroll

The pressure at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean is around 404 atm. The current record for humans is 30 atm, meaning that mental models would be at least 13 times more durable than humans, putting them at Wall Level, likely higher, especially given that they survived the I-401 crashing into them.

Takao Eats a Missile[]

In the anime, there's a pretty solid shot of Takao getting smacked in the face by a missile when she arrives at Iwo Jima.

In the shot, she's a total of 163 pixels tall, and the missile itself is 322 pixels long and 73 pixels wide.

Takao gets bopped

I was able to track down a height chart for some of the characters, thanks to some help from a friend a while back. It's an official chart, but it's kind of NSFW-ish, so I'm not going to link it here unless a calc member specifically says to. Anyway, the chart lists Takao as being 168 cm tall.

168 / 163 = 1.03 cm per px

1.03 x 322 = 331.66 cm long

1.03 x 73 = 75.19 cm wide

It'd be easiest to determine the density of a similar irl missile, then just use that to calculate the weight, as that would be more accurate than just using the desity of any single material.

A Tomahawk cruise missile is 556 cm long and 52 cm wide without booster, and weighs 1,300 kg. It's essentially a cylinder, so its volume would be about 1,180,000 cubic cm, or 1.18 cubic meters, and thus a density of 1,102 kg/m^3.

Working out the volume of the missile that bopped Takao, it is 1,470,000 cubic cm, or 1.47 cubic meters. This would give a weight of 1,620 kg.

So, how fast was this missile going?

Missile movement

When the missile is launched, we're given an absolutely perfect angle for determining its speed. It's 42 px long in this shot (the software I used to look at things frame by frame wouldn't let me zoom in further than this), and the distance travelled is 84 pixels, meaning it travelled the equivalent of twice its length in a single frame, or 663.32 cm in 1/30 of a second. Multiplly by 30 due to frame rate, and the missile was traveling 19,899.6 cm/s, or almost 200 meters per second. This is 720 km/h.

So, a bit slower than a Tomahawk, but with more mass.

The missile doesn't detonate, so we're only dealing with kinetic energy. Plugging the speed and mass of the missile into a KE calculator, I got 32,400,000 joules.

9-A: Small Building Level for mental model Durability without Klein field.

Hyuuga Defends Iwo Jima[]

At the end of Episode 8, Kongou, Maya, and 4 Nagara-class light cruisers attack Iwo Jima, where Gunzou & co are hiding out. During this attack, Hyuuga uses her Klein field to defend the island.

The assault goes from 21:03 of Episode 8 to 22:48, and from 00:00 to 1:56 and 2:02 to 3:50 of Episode 9. During this time, Kongou, Maya, and the cruisers are all firing in a regular pattern, like clockwork, which makes determining the amount of firepower used pretty simple.

Kongou fires each of her front turrets once in succession, every 3 seconds (this would be 4 individual photon cannon beams every 3 seconds).

Each light cruiser fires their main gun, using conventional shells, every 3 seconds.

Each light cruiser fires a barrage of missiles every 3 seconds, and has a total of at least 16 missile tubes.

Maya fires a barrage of missiles every 3 seconds, and has a total of 56 missile tubes.

This goes on for a total of 329 seconds.

This means that during this time frame, Kongou fires 440 photon cannon beams, and the other ships fire 440 conventional 5 inch HE shells, and 13,200 missiles (hot damn!). In addition to this, Kongou fires a near-constant stream of smaller caliber rounds, but as it is impossible to determine the power of them, I will ignore them.

The photon cannons have already been worked out to be at the very least 3.515 x 10^12 joules, from Kirishima's calc.

3.515e12 x 440 = 1.5466e15 joules

Iwo Jima is 161 meters tall at its highest point. In the picture, we have a really good shot to compare the explosions of the missiles to the height of the island. The former is 61 pixels wide, and the latter is 198 px tall.

161 / 198 = 0.813 meters per pixel

0.813 x 61 = 49.6 meters wide

This means the explosion radius for each missile is 24.8 meters, giving a yield of...

R = Y^(1/3)*0.28

0.0248^(1/3) x 0.28

0.292 x 0.28 = 0.082 kt, or 3.43x10^11 joules (City Block Level)

Multiply this by the 13,200 missiles launched total:

3.43e11 x 13,200 = 4.5276e15 joules

The 5 inch guns should be comparable to the 5 inch gun VSBW has a page for, which can produce up to 29 megajoules per shot. 440 shots would make 12,760 megajoules, or 1.276e10 joules.

1.5466e15 + 4.5276e15 + 1.276e10 = 6.07e15 joules

Low 7-B: Small City Level

This would scale as a personal Klein field feat, since Hyuuga had already been sunk by this point.

Other Misc or Individual Calcs[]

In the climactic battle of the anime, Kongou makes use of nanomaterials to create hardlight-construct blades. During the fight, she ends up piercing her own ship with them numerous times. This would have to be at least Large Building Level for Kongou w/Nanomaterial Blades

In Episode 9 of the anime, Kongou plows through an entire mine field of Corrosive Warhead mines, tanking at least 63 mines. Each mine has the warhead of a corrosive torpedo. I'm unsure of how this would translate to a calculatable stat, as it suffers the same issue that all other thanatonium-based weapons do, in that it works more on hax than it does a definable energy yield.

In the manga, Maya came very close to launching a long-range attack that would have wiped out all of Yokosuka, Hakodate, and Nagasaki. This would cover an area of 1,185 square kilometers, making the attack easy in Mountain Level range. Presumably this would be with missiles, as the targeting sequence shows high-angled arcing fire to all three locations. It's most likely that this would be with thanatonium-based weapons.

Maya attack

In the battle of Yokosuka, Haruna stated that she and Kirishima had to be careful not to completely wipe out the entire city, which would, fittingly, be a City Level feat.

The Lightning Missiles that Kirishima uses in the Battle of Yokosuka each one-shot a modern destroyer, though the ships themselves are not vaporized. As the lightning from the missiles appears to act like real lightning, they would be at least Building Level+

Mental models are constantly shown making ridiculously superhuman jumps, be it Takao jumping from a pier all the way up to the top of her ship, I-402 jumping across the rooftops of several large warehouses, or mental models jumping down from their superstructures onto their main decks. This would suggest that mental models possess at least Superhuman lifting strength.

Jump feat

I-402 was able to casually kick in the steel door to a large warehouse, suggesting that mental models have at least Wall Level striking strength.

Door feat

Conclusions[]

The mental models seem to have more or less equal combat ability, no matter which class of ship they belong to, in contrast to larger Fog ships having more powerful weaponry on their actual warships. This is further supported by the fact that the smaller ships, who have lower overall processing power, need to dedicate significantly more processing power to creating a mental model, suggesting that mental models' processing power needs are universal.

So, any feat from a mental model can scale to all mental models.

So, for mental models, I would suggest this:

Attack Potency: Small Building Level, likely higher

Speed: Subsonic+ Travel Speed; Supersonic+ Combat Speed; FTL+ Perceptions

Lifting Strength: Likely Superhuman

Striking Strength: At least Wall Class

'Durability: 'Small Building LevelSmall City Level with personal Klein field

Specifically for Kongou:

Attack Potency: At least Large Building Level

Striking Strength: At least Wall Class; At least Large Building Class with Nanomaterial Blades

Ships, on the other hand, aren't equal. But, there is a very clear tiering based on ship class, which goes as follows:

-Super Battleships (Yamato, Musashi)

-Battleships (Kongou, Kirishima, Haruna, Hiei, Nagato, Ise, Hyuuga, Hood, Prince of Wales, Bismarck, New Jersey)

-Assault & Suppression Vessels, formerly Aircraft Carriers (Zuikaku, Shokaku, Lexington)

-Battlecruisers (Repulse)

-Heavy Cruisers (Takao, Maya, Atago, Myoukou, Nachi, Ashigara, Haguro)

-Submarines (I-400, I-401/Iona, I-402, I-501)

-Light Cruisers (Nagara, Natori, Yura, Fletcher, Radford, Melvin)

-Destroyers (Yukikaze, Kasumi, Vampire)

Auxiliary vessels (Shiretoko, Akashi, SGCS-01 Itsukushima, SGCS-02 Hashidate, Milchkuh) are difficult to place in the tier list, as they don't really have any feats. It should be safe to assume that any with mental models, such as Akashi, should have a durability at least comparable to a heavy cruiser or above.

Note that I-401/Iona, due to extensive modification, as well as having Hyuuga's SGC, doesn't fit neatly into the submarine tier. Likewise, U-2501's placement is questionable, as she is based on the Union core of Fog Destroyer Z1 Leberecht Maass, and contains other technology that only a Super Battleship should possess, such as the Mirror Ring System.

Outside of Iona and U-2501, all warships of the Fog scale to their respective classes, so any feat performed by a ship of one class scales to all ships within the same class.

The Seehund submarines, due to their small size and dronelike operation, do not scale to the submarine class, and, unlike the rest of the Fleet of Fog, are actually somewhat vulnerable to humanity's higher-powered weapons.

Note that the main weapons of a battlecruiser are equivalent in power to a battleship, but the durability of a battlecruiser is not. Also, a battlecruiser's SGC is not as powerful as a battleship's.

For ships, these are the stats I've worked out:

All Ships Destroyer Class or Higher:

-Durability: At least City Level+, likely Mountain Level with Klein field, likely higher (are stated to be entirely immune to any human weapon, including the most powerful nuclear warheads, such as the Tsar Bomba)

-Attack Potency: At least Small Town Level, possibly higher (Even Fog Destroyers are capable of entirely demolishing any ship created by humanity up through the modern era)

All Ships Heavy Cruiser Class or Higher:

-Attack Potency: At least Mountain Level with Torpedo/Missile barrage

All Ships Battlecruiser Class or Higher:

-Attack Potency: At least Small Town Level, likely City Level+ with Photon Cannons

All Ships Battleship Class or Higher:

-Attack Potency: Island Level, likely higher with Super Graviton Cannon

Specifically for those in the Kongou-class:

Attack Potency: Building Level+ with Lightning Missiles; At least Mountain Level with Torpedo/Missile barrage; At least Small Town Level, likely City Level+ with Photon Cannons; Island Level, likely higher with Super Graviton Cannon

I've taken the liberty of organizing this into statistics for each of the ARP characters that already have a profile on VSBW. This would be assuming that both this and the Iona A-SGC calc are accepted.
