So this is a work in progress as I try to gather feats for Popeye. Almost all of Popeye's feats are hearsay with little to no proof backing them up. This will be my attempt at actually making a list of feats with sources. Popeye is one of my favorite cartoon and comic characers but I never really dove into the mythos aside from occasionally watching a short or reading a strip, so outside of feats this has been a fun exercise so far, even i some of the later Popeye comics got really bad (never forget the days of Hipster Bluto)
Strength and durability[]
Without spinach[]
- As a young man, Popeye punched Brutus so hard that he bent the metal wall of a warship
- Source: Popeye Special #1 ("Borned to the Sea")
- Effortlessly beat up a shark
- Source: Popeye (IDW) #1 ("Land of the Jeeps")
- Wasn't injured by being slammed through a wooden pole and threw Bluto so had that he sunk a pirate ship
- Source: Popeye (IDW) #1 ("Land of the Jeeps")
- Thrashed Ogbert by punching him in the head, who had a titanium skull
- Source: Popeye (IDW) #1 ("Land of the Jeeps")
- Note: Jeeps are consistently said to be higher dimensional beings tapped in lower dimensional shells, so Popeye doesn't scale to their true forms (yet). However they do have higher dimensional brains
- Uprooted a tree
- Source: Popeye (IDW) #2 ("Return of the Worm")
- Also lifted a cow
- Source: Popeye (IDW) #2 ("Return of the Worm")
- Relevant video™
- Was unfazed by being attacked by two con men, even when one hit hi in the head with a crowbar
- D. Schnoz's entire arsenal of weapons including a chainsaw were desroyed upon hitting Popeye
- Source: Popeye by Bobby London volume II
- Survived an explosion with destroyed a few city blocks in Bananastan.
- Source: Popeye's Apocalypse act II (no scans yet)
- Survived the full blast of six SCUD rockets at once.
- Source: Popeye's Apocalypse act II (no scans yet)
- Tanks an explosion of countless missiles and gasoline strong enough to bow up a warehouse.
- Source: Popeye's Apocalypse act II (no scans yet)
- Survived an explosion that he claimed would wipe out half of Bannanastan.
- Source: Popeye's Apocalypse act II (no scans yet)
- Stronger than Swee'Pea, who lifted a 5,000 lbs weight with his finger.
- Source: Popeye #1 (I think, reading from a collection)
- Swee'Pea also did this.
- Source: Same as above
- Defeated Kid Kabbage who could punch down trees.
- Source: Popeye #1: SHAME ON YOU!
With spinach[]
- Lifted and demolished a giant Martian war machine
- Source: Mars Attacks Popeye
Agility and speed[]
Without spinach[]
- Caught a bullet.
- Unsure what the source is. I'm guessing Issue 147 but don't quote me on that.
With spinach[]
- Blitzed an army
- Source: Mars Attacks Popeye
Weaknesses[]
- Popeye is capable of being mind-controlled
- Although a gruff sailor, Popeye doesn't typically instigate violence. He's a "peace lovin' guy" and has "a heart like nobody's bizness". When he does fight innoncents, it's usually to teach a lesson
Other stuff[]
- In which O. G. Wotasnozzle is the most relatable character
- The multiverse apparently contains 8-Dimensions
- Source: Popeye (IDW) #2 ("John Sappo and Prof. O.G. Wotasnozzle and Sappo's Wife Myrtle")
- Note: It should be noted that Popeye is fairly consistent with using dimensions as higher realms. Jeep's are consistently said to be higher dimensional beings, for example
- Super Mario Bros 3 makes people insane, apparently.
- Standard Oyl Corporation "drained" the entire universe of its natural resources.
Notes[]
- So far, Popeye without spinach is pretty consistently wall level. Surprisingly little feats for him with spinach in the comics I've been reading through.
As of 5/8/2018, I now have access to the 1989-1992 run by Bobby London. This is the line that contains the so-called Tier 2/1 feats. However due to a stomach bug and the fact that the arc last 2 or 3 years worth of comics, it'll probably take awhile for me to get everything posted.
