“ | Why do bad things happen to good people? Because people like Billy Lathem profit from them. | „ |

Summary
The Jonah (real name Billy Lathem) is a minor villain who appears in the Nightside series by Simon R. Green. A practitioner of "entropy magic" as well as an enforcer for the Cavendish family, the Jonah makes a living by using his powers to force bad things to happen to good people. His powers allow him to alter and control probabilities, a trait which he uses to find the "one-in-a-million chance" for something bad to happen and enforce it upon a given victim.
He eventually meets his end at the climax of Nightingale's Lament, when Rossignol uses an empathy-manipulating song to drive him to suicide.
