The Iron Giant is a 1999 animated science fiction drama film using both traditional animation and computer animation, produced by Warner Bros. Animation, and based on the 1968 novel The Iron Man (novel) by Ted Hughes.
The film stars Eli Marienthal, Christopher McDonald, Jennifer Aniston, Harry Connick, Jr., John Mahoney, and Vin Diesel and is set during the Cold War in 1957. Upon its release, it saw world-wide critical acclaim from critics and audiences. It was nominated for several awards, winning nine Annie Awards.
The plot revolves around Hogarth Hughes, a young, energetic and curious boy who discovers a Gigantic sized Robot one stormy night close to his home in Rockwell, Maine, USA. However, he soon discovers that the Robot is not harmful at all, instead he turns out to be a curious creature that happens to hate violence. A friendship develops between the two as Hogarth teaches the Iron Giant about how the world works and unconsciously instills his childlike behavior in the giant as well. However, when the US government begins to suspect the existence of a giant alien robot somewhere in Maine, things start to look bad for Hogarth and his gentle giant friend. The movie ends with the Iron Giant using his powers for good rather than for destruction
