|“||Hey, kid! What do you think you're doing here? You won't live long in combat! That's for sure! I tell you kid, electric Pokémon saved me during the war! They zapped my enemies into paralysis! The same as I'll do to you!||„|
|~ Lt. Surge to Red|
Lt. Surge "The Lightning American" is the leader of the Vermillion Gym and mainly uses Electric-type Pokémon. He is the third Gym Leader Red and Blue encounter in their adventures through Kanto. Characterized by his bold and brash composure, Lt. Surge is a war vet who served in the mysterious "Kanto War" of some years ago.
Surge is also one of the first Gym Leaders of Kanto that Ethan encountered when he first arrived in the land from Johto. Though he was defeated, Surge proved himself to be a force to be reckon with. Eventually, along with other Gym Leaders in Kanto, Surge had a rematch against Ethan and fought on equal grounds against him.
Years after the events of Pokèmon Gold/Silver/Crystal, Surge would partake in the World Tournaments held in Unova, in which he was considered a rather highly ranked trainer.
