By night, junior high student Yoshimori Sumimura is a kekkaishi--a demon-hunter who specializes in creating magical barriers around his prey. By day, Yoshimori has got some other demons to battle: an addiction to sweets and a seriously crotchety grandfather! Yoshimori's pretty 16-year-old neighbor and childhood friend, Tokine Yukimura, is also a kekkaishi, but their families are feuding over who is the true practitioner of the art.
Power of this verse
Compared to other verses based on shounen storytelling, the characters in Kekkaishi are rather weak. They don't excel in Attack Potency, at most they could maybe become large building or mountain-top busters.
Their Speed is Subsonic to Subsonic+ together with Subsonic+ reaction.
But it is full of "limited hax". For example: the main characters have the ability to distort space. Usually it is used for barrier creation, but later it evolves into the power to create a matter-destroying sphere and a power to create a miniature-world. Phasing, Soul Manipulation, Power Manipulation, Blood Manipulation, Body swapping, Mind-controlling, etc; even the power to become a Type 3 Immortal through various means exist. There are even people born with the power to see the future at the cost of their lifespans.
BFRing an enemy into another dimension was also shown to be an easy feat at the beginning of the series.
The term "God" also gets used frequently to refer to beings who control a piece of land with sacred powers (basically a place where good luck is and where good harvest can be made, usually shrines are built at such places). While the "Gods" have their own world in which they can change anything and create everything they want, none of them (except for one) showed powerful feats, and their "worlds" are limited pocket dimensions, beings and objects from the outside can't be manipulated. To boot, Low-Class Gods can be killed with a single attack, though it should be noted that the attack was an ability which destroys everything about the target in question.
