I do hate myself. I hate what I've become. They turned me into this monster. They turned me into a villain. But I was Superboy.

Summary

Superboy-Prime is an alternate version of Superman who grew up in a world where superheroes were merely comic books. However, after a freak cosmic storm that led him to meet Earth-One's Superman, Clark's latent Kryptonian powers finally manifested. He then lived out his days as the new Superboy, but after the events of Crisis on Infinite Earths, his lingering feelings about his home world made him increasingly psychotic, eventually going rogue and becoming one of the greatest threats the DC Multiverse has ever known.

Powers and Stats

Tier: Varies, 3-C normally, up to 2-C at his peak | 2-C

Key: Base and during "Countdown to Final Crisis" | With the Time Trapper's powers

Name: Kal-El, Clark Kent, Superboy-Prime, Superman-Prime

Origin: DC Comics, DC Comics Presents #87.

Gender: Male.

Age: Probably in his 20s.

Classification: Kryptonian from Earth-Prime

Powers and Abilities: Superhuman Physical Characteristics, Heat Vision, Super Hearing, X-Ray Vision, Telescopic Vision, Microscopic Vision, Solar Energy Absorption, Regeneration (At least Mid-Low, should be comparable to his Post-Crisis counterpart, who can heal from having his throat slashed), Flight, Ice Breath, Super Breath, Reality Warping (Can alter timelines with his punches, which is likely a result of his future self), Rage Power (His power fluctuates depending on his rage[1]). Resistance to Magic, Telepathy, Telekinesis, Reality Warping, Antimatter Manipulation (withstood attacks from the Anti-Monitor), Radiation (withstood attacks from Monarch), BFR (escaped the Phantom Zone and the Speed Force), and Kryptonite.

Attack Potency: Varies (Alexander Luthor, Jr, remarked that he grew weakened over the years as he can't generate the same level of anger.[2]), Galaxy level normally (Defeated Krypto the Superdog and pierced Superman's shoulder with his heat vision[3]), up to Low Multiverse level (Fought toe to toe with Ion (Sodam Yat)[4] and broke Hal Jordan's arm[5]. Affected the entire New Earth's universe with his "retcon punches", while in a weakened state[6]. Fought Monarch, an unrestricted version of Captain Atom, and breached his armor while running out of power. Said armor contained enough quantum energy to destroy the space-time continuum of the universe they were in[7][Note 1]) | Low Multiverse level (Should be as powerful as the original Time Trapper, and is a sentient timeline[8]. Fought and traded blows with Post-Crisis Superman[9][8][Note 2])

Speed: Massively FTL+ (The only way for Bart Allen to beat Prime to the main DCU was for Bart to absorb the entirety of the Speed Force. Dodged and outblitzed Bart, Wally West, and Jay Garrick) | Immeasurable (Is a sentient timeline and exists outside of the flow of linear time)

Lifting Strength: At least Multi-Stellar, possibly higher (Comparable to Pre-Crisis Superman) | At least Multi-Stellar, possibly higher

Striking Strength: Varies on solar radiation and rage, typically Galaxy level, up to Low Multiverse level | Low Multiverse level

Durability: Varies on solar radiation and rage, typically Galaxy level (Took hits from the GLC and Superman Family[10]), up to Low Multiverse level (Took a beating from a weakened Anti-Monitor even before he possessed his armor. Anti-Monitor at the time was weakened to the point that Earth-2 Superman was able to hurt him[11]. Stated that he was going to survive the Big Bang caused by destroying the planet Oa[5].) | Low Multiverse level (Took hits from Post-Crisis Superman[9][8]. Comparable, if not superior to before.)

Stamina: Unknown (Can tire quickly if he is not under yellow sunlight. Post-Crisis Superman and Earth-2 Superman nearly defeated him after pushing him through a red star), likely higher after absorbing Oan energy. Extremely high to an unknown degree with the Anti-Monitor armor

Range: Interstellar | Multiversal+

Standard Equipment: The Anti-Monitor Armor

Intelligence: Likely Average. Superboy-Prime achieved a high school-level education, but his increasing psychosis has left him childlike and unstable, often making irrational decisions and coming up with childish retorts and taunts on a regular basis and entering psychotic tantrums whenever he is slighted. However, he is fairly skilled at hand-to-hand combat and has full mastery of his powers, allowing him to overpower most opponents simply by attacking them repeatedly with his overwhelming brute strength.

Weaknesses: He is susceptible to Red Sunlight (though the Anti-Monitor armor negates this weakness). He has an innate fear of the Flashes due to being sealed in the Speed Force for a significant amount of time. Superboy-Prime is dangerously psychotic and insane, and will act irrationally at the slightest provocation.

Feats:

  • Killed 30 Green Lanterns
  • Tanked punches from Bart Allen after the latter absorbed the entirety of the speed force.
  • Punched through the body of a weakened Anti-Monitor and tossing the rest of his body into space
  • Defeated people such as Ion (Sodam Yat), Black Adam, Wonder Woman, Martian Manhunter, Power Girl, Superman, and his counterparts in Infinite Crisis.
  • During the Sinestro Corps War, it took a Guardian of the Universe to defeat him, sacrificing himself by releasing all the energy contained in his body. All the Oan energy released by the Guardian ended up being absorbed by Superman-Prime making him even more powerful. With that power, he tortured Mr. Mxyzptlk and survived an explosion powerful enough to destroy the universe during his fight with Monarch, a cosmic being who fought and defeated numerous counterparts of Captain Atom simultaneously and Superman and attempted to conquer the Multiverse in Countdown to Final Crisis.
  • After losing the Oan energy and being transported to the 30th Century, he proceeded to tank an attack from Mordru and take on the Legion of Super-Heroes with ease.

Notes:

  • Superboy-Prime originally appeared during the Crisis on Infinite Earths and was portrayed as roughly on par with Superman and other Pre-Crisis Kryptonians, but since he was taken to a pocket dimension outside of the conventional multiverse after battling the Anti-Monitor, his feats, power, and continuity were not rebooted like most other Pre-Crisis characters.
  • Pre-Crisis Superman and other Pre-Crisis Kryptonians should not be backscaled to Superboy-Prime's Death Metal key.
  • Do not scale Superboy-Prime from his fight with The Darkest Knight. He had no official reason for such a ridiculously extreme power-up, has no feats of his own anywhere near approaching this scale, and needed help to even accomplish a planetary feat right previously in the Death Metal storyline.[12] There was no logical reason for him to suddenly gain so much power other than extreme plot convention. Also, our rules forbid listing these types of very brief power-ups, that do not last for many issues, for DC Comics and Marvel Comics characters.
