...but you. you never gained any LOVE.
'course, that doesn't mean you're completely innocent or naive.
just that you kept a certain tenderness in your heart.
no matter the struggles or hardships you faced...
you strived to do the right thing.

~ Sans to Frisk in the Pacifist Route

SANDUNDERTALE

heya.
you've been busy, huh?
...
so, i've got a question for ya.
do you think even the worst person can change...?
that everybody can be a good person, if they just try?
heh heh heh heh...
all right. well, here's a better question.
do you wanna have a bad time?
'cause if you take another step forward...
you are REALLY not going to like what happens next.

~ Sans to Chara in the Genocide Route

Summary

Sans is a supporting character and the Genocide Route's final boss in the video game; Undertale.

He is one of the guards of Snowdin Village. Lazy and frivolous with a knack for making puns and jokes, he has no interest in capturing humans, much to the chagrin of his brother, Papyrus. Despite his exceedingly laid-back attitude and status as "the easiest enemy", Sans has proven himself to be extremely observant and dangerous when pushed too far, becoming the final challenge Chara faces on the Genocide Route and arguably the toughest opponent in the game.

Powers and Stats

Tier: 9-B

Name: Sans The Skeleton

Origin: Undertale

Gender: Male

Age: Unknown

Classification: Monster, Skeleton, Sentry, Scientist, Professional Prankster

Powers and Abilities:

Attack Potency: Wall level (Stated to be the "easiest enemy" due to having 1 ATK, although he's still stronger than a Frisk with 0 ATK and Minimal Determination. Can move hundreds of kilograms of bones at high speeds), Can ignore conventional durability with KARMA

Speed: Hypersonic+ (Able to consistently tag a Chara at LV 19 during the Genocide Route. Most of his attacks are faster than Chara even with their speed being maxed to x2 through consuming Sea Teas), with higher reactions (Capable of consistently dodging Chara to such a degree that they could never land a hit on Sans, even if they reset and knew exactly what he would do and where he would be, and even if he was asleep. Was only hit after Chara broke the rules of the game to do so), even higher attack speed with Gaster Blasters (The Gaster Blaster's beams can cross vast distances instantly, and travel faster than Chara or Sans can move, with the former being able to avoid these only through aim-dodging)

Lifting Strength: Unknown physically, Class 10 with Magic (Comparable to his brother Papyrus, who can move and control giant bones)

Striking Strength: Wall level

Durability: Wall level (Same as his Attack Potency due to both his ATK and DEF having the value of 1, making him more durable than a Frisk with 0 DEF and Minimal Determination)

Stamina: Average (Can repeatedly dodge attacks from Chara, but after a while, he showed various signs of tiring, such as sweating, heavier breathing, and eventually beginning to fall asleep.[1] Despite this, Sans was still able to dodge an attack after growing fully exhausted. If Chara doesn't attack him, Sans will keep using his attacks without getting tired)

Range: Tens of Meters with Bone Attacks, higher with Gaster Blasters, Hundreds of Meters with Teleportation

Standard Equipment: His numerous bones and Gaster Blasters.

Intelligence: At least Genius, likely Extraordinary Genius (While Sans is lazy, he has demonstrated incredible skill and proficiency in science and physics. Presumably, he reads quantum physics books in his off-time.[6] Sans is so perceptive that he can accurately deduce how many times Chara has died and tried again through time travel just by looking at their expression. He can also guess if Chara has already killed him but has reset the timeline just to fight him once more, as well as whether he dunked Chara or not. Most notably, Sans seems to possess knowledge of the SAVE System, as he runs reports that show the activity of a multitude of timelines. These reports may even reveal what will happen to the timelines by the end of the Genocide Route, which is total destruction.[note 1]

Sans has a workshop located in the basement of his house, which contains blueprints with unfamiliar handwriting or symbols related to a "strange machine," presumably referring to the broken machine covered up in the same room. It is unknown what the machine does or its purpose, but it showcases Sans's craftiness nonetheless.[7] Sans also appears to share a deep friendship with Alphys, and likely knowing about the dark truth of the Amalgamates,[8] which is supported by him having the dogfood Alphys uses to feed Endogeny.[9] This may also imply that "Our Reports" is referring to Alphys,[10] which is supported by the fact that she also possesses knowledge about the other timelines[11])

Weaknesses: Standard Monster weaknesses: He tends to be rather lazy and won't fight unless it's absolutely necessary. Whether by choice or due to an actual weakness, Sans is unable to attack during a time stop; he can only set up attacks that will start moving once time resumes.

Notable Attacks/Techniques:

  • SOUL Manipulation: Blue Mode: Similar to his brother, Sans turns his opponent's SOUL blue, giving it "gravity" and allowing him to more easily hit his foes. However, Sans appears to have a far greater mastery of this ability than Papyrus, allowing him to effortlessly fling his foe around by manipulating their SOUL, or effectively "changing gravity" and forcing them to move along the walls or ceiling.
  • Bone Attacks: Sans will send a massive amount of bones at his opponent, forcing them to think on their feet to dodge all of them. He will mix up his style, forcing his foes to jump through small gaps between bones, over pits full of dozens of bones, or even to rush along the platforms so that they don't fall into a deadly trap composed of dozens upon dozens of bones. Sans will often throw in blue bones, which while they cannot be dodged, will only hurt his opponent if they attempt to move through them as opposed to allowing it to pass harmlessly through. While these attacks hardly seem to so any damage initially, the damage quickly racks up from remaining in contact with them, allowing this relatively weak opponent a way of bypassing the defenses of superior foes.
  • KARMA: Whatever is struck by one of Sans's attacks will suffer from this condition, for a brief period. It essentially functions as poison damage for one's SOUL. KARMA cannot exceed 40 and also cannot cause the protagonist's HP to fall below one, with the more KARMA damage is built up, the faster it drains.
  • Gaster Blasters: Strange devices in the shape of skulls which fire powerful lasers from their maws. Like Sans's bones, Gaster Blasters will often be used in numbers and will deal KR damage.
  • Teleportation: While Sans is unable to reset the universe in the manner of someone such as Frisk or Flowey, he has shown to have a useful form of teleportation, allowing him to teleport not only himself but objects and other people, as well. During battle, Sans will often teleport his opponent, himself, and his attacks, not only moving out of harm's way but moving his foe into the path of a new attack. He has also shown the ability to restrain an enemy by repeatedly warping them back to their initial position.

Note 1:

  1. More info on this is shown here.

Note 2: It is accepted that KARMA isn't connected to the sins because otherwise it would be extremely hard to determine how KARMA would work in vsthreads.
