~ Sans to Chara in the Genocide Route |
Summary
Sans is a supporting character and the Genocide Route's final boss in the video game; Undertale.
He is one of the guards of Snowdin Village. Lazy and frivolous with a knack for making puns and jokes, he has no interest in capturing humans, much to the chagrin of his brother, Papyrus. Despite his exceedingly laid-back attitude and status as "the easiest enemy", Sans has proven himself to be extremely observant and dangerous when pushed too far, becoming the final challenge Chara faces on the Genocide Route and arguably the toughest opponent in the game.
Powers and Stats
Tier: 9-B
Name: Sans The Skeleton
Origin: Undertale
Gender: Male
Age: Unknown
Classification: Monster, Skeleton, Sentry, Scientist, Professional Prankster
Powers and Abilities:
- Superhuman Physical Characteristics
- Genius Intelligence
- Monster Physiology
- Bone Manipulation (Through his magic he can summon a multitude of bone projectiles to harm enemies[1])
- Danmaku (His main way of attacking Chara is by sending out several bones and Gaster Blasters at them through complicated patterns)
- Summoning and Energy Projection (Can summon Gaster Blasters at will[1])
- Breaking the Fourth Wall (Combat-applicable; by not taking his turn, Sans indefinitely extends it. [1] The enemy cannot attack, use items or abilities such as Information Analysis and Social Influencing.)
- Teleportation (Can teleport himself and others[2])
- Telekinesis and Gravity Manipulation (Can use the Blue Attack to add "weight" to the SOUL. Can move Chara's SOUL with a wave of his hand[1])
- Durability Negation and Status Effect Inducement (Sans is able to inflict KARMA with each attack, a type of poison effect which whittles the opponents HP down overtime.[1] KARMA is heavily implied to affect even Flowey despite lacking a SOUL[3])
- Clairvoyance (Is capable of sensing Frisk's LOVE and EXP at the end of any Neutral Route)
- Instinctive Action (Dodged Chara's attack while he was deep asleep, only getting hit when Chara broke the game's "combat system"[1])
- Social Influencing (Sans was able to trick and make Chara spare him with just his words in the Genocide Route even when Chara is a coldblooded murderer[1])
- Information Analysis (Can tell how many times Chara died by looking at their expressions and that Chara tried to spare him[1])
- Likely Air Manipulation (Has a self-sustaining tornado in him and his brothers house,[4] which is likely of his creation)
- Likely Time Stop (As shown here,[2] which matches aesthetically several instances[1] where Sans seemingly teleports. Papyrus also confirms Sans to have both space and time-related abilities from personal experience[4])
- Intangible Attacks
- Platform Creation (Shown here[1])
Attack Potency: Wall level (Stated to be the "easiest enemy" due to having 1 ATK, although he's still stronger than a Frisk with 0 ATK and Minimal Determination. Can move hundreds of kilograms of bones at high speeds), Can ignore conventional durability with KARMA
Speed: Hypersonic+ (Able to consistently tag a Chara at LV 19 during the Genocide Route. Most of his attacks are faster than Chara even with their speed being maxed to x2 through consuming Sea Teas), with higher reactions (Capable of consistently dodging Chara to such a degree that they could never land a hit on Sans, even if they reset and knew exactly what he would do and where he would be, and even if he was asleep. Was only hit after Chara broke the rules of the game to do so), even higher attack speed with Gaster Blasters (The Gaster Blaster's beams can cross vast distances instantly, and travel faster than Chara or Sans can move, with the former being able to avoid these only through aim-dodging)
Lifting Strength: Unknown physically, Class 10 with Magic (Comparable to his brother Papyrus, who can move and control giant bones)
Striking Strength: Wall level
Durability: Wall level (Same as his Attack Potency due to both his ATK and DEF having the value of 1, making him more durable than a Frisk with 0 DEF and Minimal Determination)
Stamina: Average (Can repeatedly dodge attacks from Chara, but after a while, he showed various signs of tiring, such as sweating, heavier breathing, and eventually beginning to fall asleep.[1] Despite this, Sans was still able to dodge an attack after growing fully exhausted. If Chara doesn't attack him, Sans will keep using his attacks without getting tired)
Range: Tens of Meters with Bone Attacks, higher with Gaster Blasters, Hundreds of Meters with Teleportation
Standard Equipment: His numerous bones and Gaster Blasters.
Intelligence: At least Genius, likely Extraordinary Genius (While Sans is lazy, he has demonstrated incredible skill and proficiency in science and physics. Presumably, he reads quantum physics books in his off-time.[6] Sans is so perceptive that he can accurately deduce how many times Chara has died and tried again through time travel just by looking at their expression. He can also guess if Chara has already killed him but has reset the timeline just to fight him once more, as well as whether he dunked Chara or not. Most notably, Sans seems to possess knowledge of the SAVE System, as he runs reports that show the activity of a multitude of timelines. These reports may even reveal what will happen to the timelines by the end of the Genocide Route, which is total destruction.[note 1]
Sans has a workshop located in the basement of his house, which contains blueprints with unfamiliar handwriting or symbols related to a "strange machine," presumably referring to the broken machine covered up in the same room. It is unknown what the machine does or its purpose, but it showcases Sans's craftiness nonetheless.[7] Sans also appears to share a deep friendship with Alphys, and likely knowing about the dark truth of the Amalgamates,[8] which is supported by him having the dogfood Alphys uses to feed Endogeny.[9] This may also imply that "Our Reports" is referring to Alphys,[10] which is supported by the fact that she also possesses knowledge about the other timelines[11])
Weaknesses: Standard Monster weaknesses: He tends to be rather lazy and won't fight unless it's absolutely necessary. Whether by choice or due to an actual weakness, Sans is unable to attack during a time stop; he can only set up attacks that will start moving once time resumes.

Note 2: It is accepted that KARMA isn't connected to the sins because otherwise it would be extremely hard to determine how KARMA would work in vsthreads.
