The springtime of youth has yet to fade away! Don't lose hope! We may not always be able to accomplish all the things we wish for... but if we only do the things we want to do, we'll never start... just like my challenges to you. This is by no means just a show of bravery or courage. The green days of Konoha are over. The time has come to become the Red Beast.
~ Guy to Kakashi

Summary

Might Guy (マイト・ガイ, Maito Gai) is a jōnin of Konohagakure. As Konoha's premiere master of taijutsu, Guy leads and passes his wisdom to the members of Team Guy. He is also Kakashi's eternal rival.

Powers and Stats

Tier: 7-B, 7-A with the First Gate, 6-C with the Sixth Gate, far higher with Violent-Leaf Adamantine-Strength Whirlwind, higher with the Seventh Gate | 5-C, higher with Sekizou Gears, far higher with Night Guy

Key: Base | Eighth Gate

Name: Might Guy, he called himself "Konoha's Noble Green Beast," also called (by Naruto) as "Super Bushy Brows Sensei," his name is also known as "Maito Gai."

Origin: Naruto

Gender: Male

Age: 26-27 | 29-31

Classification: Human, Ninja, Jōnin

Powers and Abilities:

Superhuman Physical Characteristics, Expert Martial Artist, Weapon Mastery (Highly skilled in wielding Nunchaku), Acrobatics, Statistics Amplification (Shinobi are capable of enhancing their physical capabilities with the use of chakra. The Shunshin no Jutsu allows Shinobi to greatly enhance their speed by focusing chakra in their feet[1][2][3]), Surface Scaling and Water Walking (By focusing chakra at the soles of their feet, Shinobi can scale and cling to vertical surfaces, and even walk on water[4][5]), Electricity Manipulation, Body Control (Via the Eight Gates), Afterimage Creation, Stealth Mastery, and Speed Enhancement (The Substitution Jutsu allows its user to instantly replace themselves with a nearby object such as a tree log, plant, person, or clone at the exact moment they are attacked. The Jutsu works even if the user is physically restrained or observed by characters as observant as Sharingan or Sage Mode users. This creates the optical illusion of the user being hit, which confuses the opponent and gives them an opening to flee or counterattack[6][7][8][9][10]), Analytical Prediction (Via tracking enemy movements by observing their feet), Statistics Amplification (via the Eight Gates), Summoning, Minor Illusion Creation and Duplication (With the Clone Technique[11], Shinobi can create illusionary duplicates of themselves that have no physical substance), Shapeshifting (With the Transformation Technique[11], Shinobi can transform themselves into other people, animals, plants, and even inanimate objects, such as weapons), Paralysis Inducement (With the Temporary Paralysis Technique[12], Shinobi can completely paralyze their targets from close to mid range), Genjutsu Nullification (Shinobi can typically break free from and nullify non-ocular genjutsu by intentionally disrupting the flow of chakra[13] within their bodies), Supernatural Willpower (Can endure the 8 Gates' effects)

All previous abilities, Fire Manipulation and Danmaku with Morning Peacock (Can produce a series of rapid punches that ignite his hands through air friction)

All previous abilities, Vibration Manipulation and Air Manipulation with Daytime Tiger (Can launch concentrated air pressure at opponents that violently expands on contact)

All previous abilities, Pseudo-Flight (Able to kick the air to move around with the Eighth Gate), Vibration Manipulation and Air Manipulation with Evening Elephant (Can create powerful shock-waves of air with his punches, that can be used from a distance), Limited Spatial Manipulation with Night Guy (He distorted space with his speed)

Attack Potency: City level+ (Knocked back Kisame[14] and blocked a strike from him, but he was overpowered by his follow-up strike[15]), Mountain level with the First Gate (The First Gate multiplies the user’s physical strength by five times[16]), Island level with the Sixth Gate (Could fight against the Edo V2 Jinchūriki alongside Kakashi[17][Note 1]), far higher with Violent-Leaf Adamantine-Strength Whirlwind (With this attack, he was able to force White Mask Obito Uchiha to avoid his strike and phase through it[18][Note 2]), higher with the Seventh Gate (Sent Edo Madara’s Susano’o flying with a Hirudora, and was implied to have incapacitated him as his Wood Dragon Jutsu came undone and he was out of the fight until the Ten-Tails was revived[19]) | Moon level (A single Sekizou knocks One Rinnegan Jūbi Jinchuriki Madara through the ground, and Madara concedes he cannot take many of those attacks, much less a direct punch from Guy[20][Note 3]), higher with Sekizou Gears (By increasing the gear of Sekizou, up to a maximum of 5, Guy can increase its power[21]), far higher with Night Guy (Nearly killed Madara[22])

Speed: At least Massively Hypersonic+ (Stated to be a rival to Kakashi, was able to intercept Kisame while he was mid-attack) | At least Sub-Relativistic, possibly higher (Far faster than his First Gates form, which multiplies his speed by 5 times) | At least Sub-Relativistic, possibly higher (Faster than before) | At least Sub-Relativistic (Much faster than before. Kept up with Juubi Jinchūriki Madara and overwhelmed him on several occasions, with Madara praising his speed), higher with Sekizo and Night Guy (Sekizo gains acceleration with each subsequent attack, and Madara praised Night Guy's swiftness, which distorted space via sheer speed)

Lifting Strength: At least Class M (Stronger than Jirobo) | At least Class M | At least Class M | Unknown

Striking Strength: City level+ (Comparable to his striking strength), Mountain level with the First Gate (Five times stronger than his base form), Island level with the Sixth Gate (Capable of trading blows with the V2 Jinchūriki), far higher with Violent-Leaf Adamantine-Strength Whirlwind, higher with the Seventh Gate (Comparable to his attack potency) | Moon level (Comparable to his Attack Potency), higher with Sekizou Gears, far higher with Night Guy

Durability: City level+ (Blocked a hit from Kisame Hoshigaki and survived being slammed by him, albeit not without taking damage[15]), Mountain level with the First Gate (Comparable to his striking strength), Island level with the Sixth Gate (Could withstand a tail swipe from the V2 Jinchūriki[17]), far higher with the Seventh Gate (Comparable to his striking strength) | Moon level (Capable of withstanding the force of his own Sekizou[Note 4])

Stamina: Superhuman (Guy can train for 24 hours straight with an exercise video guide, can withstand extreme physical training, also recovered in moments after opening gates later in the War)

Weaknesses: Opening Gates leaves his body physically exhausted depending on the number, with opening the Eighth Gate leading him to death.

Notable Attacks/Techniques:

  • Strong Fist: Strong Fist is Guy's and Lee's characteristic fighting style, the purpose of which is to cause external damage and break bones. It is the exact opposite of Gentle Fist which is used mainly by the Hyūga Clan. This style of fighting involves smashing your opponent and is generally used only by extremely physically powerful and dominating shinobi. As shown by Sasuke's initial usage of this style, the user must be exceptionally conditioned or even a brief performance in this style will quickly exhaust and strain the body. It was only after a month of training that Sasuke later became able to use this style unhindered.
  • Dynamic Entry: This is a flying kick directed at an opponent, typically their face. The kick serves two simultaneous purposes: as a surprise attack, for which reason the user may first throw a kunai to distract targets from the approaching kick; as an act of self-sacrifice, with the user's exaggerated stance, confident expression, and the sheer inconceivableness of the attack combining to intimidate the opponent, in the process enhancing the kick's offensive potential. Because the kick's effectiveness very much relies on appearance, any faltering of resolve will weaken it: when Might Guy realizes mid-flight that he's attacking Jiraiya, an ally, his surprise causes his kick to do less damage than it otherwise would have.
  • Eight Gates: The Eight Gates exist to prevent chakras from overflowing inside a person's body. Naturally, people can only employ 20% of their body's maximum capability, which is the brain's method of preventing them from hurting their bodies via overexertion. Individuals may learn to eliminate these limitations via training, referred to as "opening" the gates. With each opened gate, people get access to more chakra, increasing their physical strength and speed, at the cost of injuring their body, and can even result in death.
    • 1. The Gate of Opening, located in the brain's left hemisphere, removes the user's mental inhibitions. Opening this gate allows the user to perform the Front Lotus, a technique that tires them afterwards.
      • Front Lotus: The user delivers an upward kick to their opponent, sending them high into the air. The user follows the opponent along their upward trajectory, taking tight hold of them so that they can't move or escape; Rock Lee wraps opponents with the bandages he wears to help in this regard. Once they've reached the peak of the initial kick's arc, the user begins a spinning motion and propels them headfirst towards the ground. The user releases the opponent right before impact and retreats to safety, leaving the opponent to collide with the ground alone. Because the Front Lotus requires at least one of the Eight Gates be opened, users are likely to be fatigued afterwards and thus vulnerable to attack. For this reason, Might Guy mandates that Lee only use the Front Lotus to protect something or someone important.
    • 2. The Gate of Healing (The Gate of Rest), located in the brain's right hemisphere, increases the user's physical strength. This has the added effect of re-energising the body, enabling it to rapidly recover from exhaustion.
    • 3. The Gate of Life, located on the spinal cord, turns the user's skin red when opened. Other effects include the user's pupils disappearing, their hair standing on end, and bulging veins all over their body. Opening this gate allows the user to perform the Reverse Lotus. In the anime, the chakra released is enough to create a buffer zone to allow safe passage through severe adverse weather.
      • Reverse Lotus: The user first opens at least three of the Eight Gates, removing their body's limitations on their maximum speed. Once this is done, the user - who is so fast that it's difficult to follow their movements - continually strikes the target from multiple directions, pummelling them into the air. When Rock Lee uses Reverse Lotus on Gaara, Gaara's Shield of Sand is unable to react fast enough to protect him. As Lee attacks Gaara, he gradually wraps Gaara with the bandages he wears, allowing him to better manoeuvre Gaara to deliver a finishing blow that sends him crashing back to the ground. Lee was taught the Reverse Lotus by his idol, Might Guy, with the understanding that it would be an attack of last resort, used only in dire circumstances. This is because opening any of the Eight Gates places a huge strain on the user's body, likely exhausting their body beyond the point of moving or even remaining conscious afterwards. Ordinarily this shouldn't be an immediate problem, because the Reverse Lotus's innumerable initial attacks as well as the power of its finishing blow will likely defeat most opponents. But if the opponent is able to endure the Reverse Lotus, the user will be at their mercy.
    • 4. The Gate of Pain is located on the spinal cord. Rock Lee opens this gate as he's about to use the Reverse Lotus, seemingly to increase his speed; as he performs the Reverse Lotus, his muscles start to tear. Opening the gate on this occasion also causes Lee's nose to start bleeding.
    • 5. The Gate of Limit (The Gate of Closing) is located in the abdomen. Rock Lee opens this gate as he's about to deliver the final blow of the Reverse Lotus, seemingly to increase his strength; after completing the Reverse Lotus, Lee's limbs receive compound fractures.
    • 6. The Gate of View (The Gate of Joy), located in the stomach, increases all the user's abilities. The power that emanates from the user is enough to displace surrounding bodies of water. Opening this gate allows the user to perform the Morning Peacock, wherein the user's punches are so fast that friction with the air produces flames. Opening this gate has sometimes been shown to create an aura around the user; in the anime, the aura is green.
      • Morning Peacock: The Morning Peacock is a certain-kill taijutsu born from the philosophy of Might Guy. The principle of this taijutsu is to rapidly increase the body's abilities by opening up to and including the sixth of the Eight Gates, and then to strike the enemy down with countless punches. The technique is started by kicking the enemy into the air, which for most would be an instant kill. The user then jumps into the air in a distinctive stance and begins punching the enemy repeatedly. The punches are so fast, they are set ablaze by sheer speed and friction which in turn creates a peacock-like fan of flames around the opponent. Once the attack is finished, the enemy will be sent crashing back to the ground, covered with the attack's aura. The fire produced is strong enough to burn through Saiken's Wisdom Wolf Decay, and evaporates hundreds of water sharks.
    • 7. The Gate of Wonder (The Gate of Shock), located below the stomach, causes the user's body to secrete a blue sweat. The sweat immediately evaporates, creating an aura around the user that can be mistaken for chakra. Opening this gate allows the user to perform the Daytime Tiger, a single punch that creates a pocket of compressed air. After opening this gate, Guy's muscle fibers rupture, causing him intense pain if anyone touches him.
      • Daytime Tiger: The Daytime Tiger is an incredibly fast punch and, contrary to its appearance, purely taijutsu in nature. After opening the seventh of the Eight Gates, the user places a palm facing forward in front of their face with one hand and then taps it with his other hand, formed into a fist, which creates a massive amount of air pressure. Next, the user forms a unique hand seal resembling a tiger. This launches the air pressure at the opponent in the shape of one by leaving a gigantic tiger-shaped impression into the initially built-up air pressure with the hand seal. The air pressure will condense as it's moving and be focused into a single point. The technique then explodes on command, releasing the built up air pressure in an instant. A massive explosion — one that dwarfs Island Turtle — is created which can be felt a significant distance away.
    • 8. The Gate of Death is located at the heart. Users open this gate by puncturing their chest with their thumb in order to direct the chakra there. While open, the user's heart pumps at maximum speed, granting them power a hundred times greater than they are usually capable of, far beyond that of the Five Kage. A "Steam of Blood" (血の蒸気, Chi no Jōki) is emitted from the user's pores and hair, resembling a flaming red aura. Opening this gate allows the user to perform the Evening Elephant and Night Guy. The eighth gate causes the body to continually heat up until it's been cooked from the inside-out, reducing the user to ash.
      • Evening Elephant (Sekizo): The Evening Elephant is a high-level, forbidden taijutsu that can be performed by those who have opened all Eight Gates. This technique is a continuous assault of five punches, with each "foot" — as they are referred to — being performed faster than the one before. It creates a cannon of pressurised air which bears the appearance of an elephant's leg, causing devastating damage to the opponent. The first punch alone was capable of creating a massive and deep tunnel in the ground. The final punch is strong enough to break through Madara Uchiha's chakra shell. The strength of several of these punches was enough to temporarily immobilise Madara Uchiha as the Ten-Tails' jinchūriki.
      • Night Guy: The Night Guy is a forbidden taijutsu of the highest level and can only be performed after opening all Eight Gates. When Guy initiates the technique by saying "amass", he emits an enormous amount of red steam, the so-called "Steam of Blood", and his chakra manifests into a red burning dragon around his body. Shouting "flow", he then dashes forward at such an extreme speed that the space ahead of the user is distorted, making it impossible for the target to defend against it. Guy then deals an immensely powerful kick which carries such force that it is capable of obliterating the target's body, as well as creating a devastating shock wave linear to the kick. The damage itself was so great that even Madara Uchiha as the Ten-Tails' jinchūriki feared for his life. The recoil was such that it completely shattered the bones in Guy's striking leg. As a result of opening the Eight Gates, the fatal repercussions of doing so soon left Guy on the brink of death; slowly turning into ash, crumbling from the immense discharge of his chakra.
