Mangog transparent
When my race was dying -- they took the limitless strength of all the billions whom Odin had doomed -- and they found a way to store that matchless power within one living being -- thus, in all the universe, there is but one who possesses the unimaginable might of a billion, billion beings! ONE, WHOM THEY NAMED -- MANGOG!
~ Mangog

Summary

Mangog is the sum total of the hatred of a billion billion beings that were once killed by the ruler of Asgard and the Norse Gods, Odin. Imprisoned deep beneath Asgard, Mangog is accidentally freed by the Rock Troll Ulik and goes on to wage war against Odin and the other Norse Gods on several occasions. Mangog has proven to be physically unstoppable and is usually only defeated by exploiting its dependence on psychic energies (such as hatred, fear or feelings of devotion) felt by other sentient beings to sustain itself. Without such a source, Mangog shrinks to near nothingness.

Note:

  • Mangog's portrayal in the Death of the Mighty Thor arc includes heavy Plot-Induced Stupidity, due to the horribly inconsistent power levels of characters. His death was caused from being thrown into the Sun, yet in the same storyline, Mangog could not be stopped by star-shattering superbombs and he stomped Odin, who had stalemated the galaxy-sized Mother Storm, but also got damaged by Jane Foster Thor, who in turn had trouble against the Silver Samurai.
