Summary
Guzma (Japanese: グズマ Guzma) is the leader of Team Skull.
Guzma wanted to become a Trial Captain and was even Hala's apprentice while in training. However, when he was denied due to his desire to simply beat other people, rather than respect them in battles, Guzma formed Team Skull and started his own plans to frighten others out of participating in the Island Challenge.
In Pokémon Sun and Moon, he is first encountered at Malie Garden and mocks Professor Kukui for trying to make a league before battling the player character after seeing their Z Ring, but he ends up losing and leaves. He is then encountered at Po Town in his personal quarters at the Shady House, where all of the Buginium Z-Crystals that Team Skull has stolen up until this point was stored. He is defeated yet again and leaves, though it was later revealed that he was simply a distraction so Plumeria could kidnap Lillie. It is then revealed that Guzma was working with Lusamine, noting his strength, and blocks the entrance to the mansion where Lusamine's secret lab is until he is defeated once more. After the Ultra Wormhole is opened, he goes into Ultra Space with Lusamine to capture Ultra Beasts, and he is encountered later in Ultra Space after a Nihilego apparently attempted to possess him. He states that it was the first time he had truly been afraid after having scared everyone else all his life. He then gets teleported out by Solgaleo/Lunala. Afterward, he officially disbands Team Skull and challenges the player character, now the Champion of Alola, one last time and loses once more. Hala then approaches Guzma and tells him that he still doesn't respect his opponent's strengths, but promises to make him a fine Trainer yet, and after gifting the player with his lucky charm, a Dawn Stone, Guzma leaves with Hala.
In Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, events play out similarly to Sun and Moon until the player and Lillie attempt to enter the Ultra Wormhole to chase after Guzma and Lusamine, where the two are knocked out of the portal where Necrozma soon appears. After the player battles Necrozma at Ultra Megalopolis and returning, Guzma regains his consciousness and reflects on the conversation he overhears about working together with others, and later goes on to disband Team Skull. Later, he reappears in the Rainbow Rocket Mansion to assist the player battle some grunts, and ends up holding them off so the player could challenge the bosses of Team Rainbow Rocket.
