“The End of Empires,’ the Emperor said.

My king?’

‘You cannot reweave warp creatures’ names from base concept to human language without an element of
psychic adaptation in the translation.
As close as it can be rendered into Gothic, that is what the entity’s name means. The End of Empires.'

I am the End of Empires.
I am your death.

Summary

Escape. Survive. Anathema. End of Empires.
— Drach’nyen

Drach'nyen (lit. "the End of Empires") is an immensely powerful Daemon, known to the history of Mankind to a variety of titles, amongst them the "Echo of the First Murder" and the "Shard of Madness". Of all Daemons of the Warp, Drach'nyen is the one most closely intertwined with humanity, as it was "birthed" when in ancient times, one of the original primitive humanoids committed the first murder by willingly killing his brother.

The primal cries of anguish of the slayed brother echoed through reality and unreality, with his suffering and his brother's evil taking shape in the Warp, "giving origin" to a being that took the name "Drach'nyen", which was the sound of pain and anger that the primitive man as his older brother killed him. Ever since, the Daemon has been tied to all of mankind, for every life taken by human hand, every word of hatred spoken in the ears of the dying, every thought of killing another to willingly further one's own goals has been an extension of Drach'nyen's influence.

The daemon currently resides within a Daemon Sword of the same name wielded by the Chaos Lord Abaddon the Despoiler, master of the Black Legion, former gene-son of the Primarch Horus, and most favoured servant of the Ruinous Powers.

Powers and Stats

Tier: At least 8-B | Varies up to 1-A

Key: In the Materium | In the Warp

Name: Drach'nyen, the End of Empires, the Echo of the First Murder, the Thorn in Reality, the Shard of Madness

Origin: Warhammer 40,000

Gender: Inapplicable

Age: Over 50,000 Years (Was created when one of the first humans committed the first murder by killing his brother), technically beyond any concept of linear time

Classification: Independent Daemon of Chaos Undivided, Warp-Entity formed from the First Murder, Daemon of cyclical human fallibility

Superhuman Physical Characteristics, Enhanced Senses, Inorganic Physiology (Type 1; Daemons are no more material within reality than they are within the Warp[1]), Self-Sustenance (Type 1, 2 and 3; Being purely immaterial creatures, daemons have no requirements to their eternal existence[2]), Immortality (Types 1, 2, 3, 4, 8, and 9; Daemons cannot die in the typical sense, only being sent back to the Warp when killed in the materium. Whether or not they come back is entirely dependent on if their God allows them to[1]), Regeneration (Low-Godly overtime; Daemons will simply regenerate in the Warp as long as the ideas and metaphors that they rely on have not been affected[1]), Possession and Dream Manipulation (Even Lesser Daemons can reach beyond the veil and possess mortals, even entering their dreams to do so[3]. Drach’nyen particularly does this regularly, often possessing or killing and then puppeting the dead and forcing them to kill their allies[4]), Dimensional Travel (Capable of travelling from the Warp into the Materium[5]), Damage Reduction (Ranged weaponry is incredibly ineffective when used against a daemon, requiring more traditional weapons to fully banish them[6]), Madness Manipulation (Type 3) and Corruption (Types 1 and 2; Looking upon a daemon can cause insanity and corrupt the mind, body, and soul of an individual), Flight/Levitation, Natural Weaponry (Claws, teeth, tail, horns, etc), Size-Shifting, Shapeshifting and Body Control (Has no distinct shape while in Realspace, existing as an ever-shifting amorphous mass of teeth and talons[7]. Can create weapons using it’s own body), Berserk Mode (Drach’nyen exists in a state of lucid rage, roughly as intelligent as a hungry shark), Telepathy (Drach’nyen speaks through thought[7]) Mind Manipulation (He is connected to the mind of every human which has ever lived, lives and will live, and it is through his influence that humans hate and kill one another[8]), Soul Manipulation (Daemons can feed upon the souls of mortals[9]. Drach'nyen eats the souls[10] of those it slays,[11] and adds them to the gruesome collection of tortured faces on it's blade[12]), Reality Warping and Durability Negation (Capable of literally cutting[13] through reality[14] and moving between reality to attack foes[15]), Power Absorption (Drach'nyen can drink in the power of the Immaterium, rendering even barriers made of it useless), Immortality Negation (Types 3, 4 and 9. Capable of permanently killing the Emperor), Darkness Manipulation, Statistics Amplification (The very act of fighting Daemons just makes them stronger.[16])

Immunity to Soul Manipulation (Daemons do not have souls[17]), Resistance to Psychic Powers (The Emperor found no other way to kill Drach'nyen and was forced to just seal it within a blade[18]), Matter Manipulation (Daemon's aren't formed out of conventional matter[19]), Corruption (One would have to overpower a Daemon’s connection to their patron Chaos God and the Warp in order to corrupt them otherwise. Drach’nyen is an extremely powerful Daemon in it’s own right, making it even harder to corrupt), Heat Manipulation (Daemons are incredibly resistant towards extremes of hot and cold. Drach’nyen’s flesh and blood is hot enough to scald the skin of Custodians[7]), Pain Manipulation (Daemons do not experience physical pain like organic lifeforms do, requiring something wholly inimicable to Chaos in order for it to be inflicted it upon them)

Attack Potency: At least City Block level+ (Easily slaughtered whole groups of Custodians, Sisters of Silence, and Mechanicum Castellax battle-automata[7]. Easily destroyed a Warhound Titan[4]. Destroyed several Custodian Dreadnoughts with ease. Significantly harmed the Emperor with little effort[18]) | Varies up to Outerverse level (Within the Warp, Daemons that can manipulate the Warp and its dimensionality[26], with the Warp holding 3 layers[27], with each layer transcending the infinity of the previous[28])

Speed: At least Hypersonic, likely far higher combat and reaction speed (Faster than the Emperor of Mankind, dodged his attacks and impaled him before he could react[18]) | Immeasurable (Beyond the concepts of time, space, or distance[9]. Ships have been known to travel back in time[29] while moving through the Warp)

Lifting Strength: At least Class 5, likely far higher (Lifted the Emperor[18] who should be heavier than Sanguinius. Sanguinius was so heavy no Astartes could move him[30]) | Immeasurable

Striking Strength: At least City Block level+ | Varies up to Outerverse level

Durability: At least City Block level+ | Varies up to Outerverse level

Stamina: Infinite

Range: Varies depending on its form | Outerversal (Should be able to manipulate the dimensionality of the Warp and its layers[26])

Standard Equipment: None notable

Intelligence: Difficult to quantify. While Drach'nyen is tied to the lives of every murderer and murdered human in existence, its behavior is still mostly animalistic and mad.

Weaknesses: While Drach'nyen can assume form in the materium whenever it pleases, it is vulnerable without a host. This problem is obviously not present anywhere not fully material.

Notable Attacks/Techniques

  • Reality-Damaging Attacks: Drach'nyen has the power to sunder the material universe with its strikes, cutting through matter as something more mundane moves through smoke. In battle, even while sealed by the Emperor into the form of a sword, Drach'nyen has been witnessed to destroy a Space Marine Land Raider and flay the souls from those it struck with a single touch. Even the hardened skin of daemons or armor sealed with the power of the Warp is little proof against its assault, as it drinks in the energy of the Immaterium like water, consuming all in its path utterly.
