Billy Bat is a thriller-crime-metafiction manga by Naoki Urasawa and Takashi Nagasaki. Beginning in 2008, it has 16 volumes and is still currently on-going.
The story starts with Japanese-American comic book artist Kevin Yamagata in 1949 as he draws the popular detective series "Billy Bat". When he learns he may have unconsciously copied the character from an image he saw while serving in occupied Japan, he returns to Japan to get permission to use Billy Bat from its original creator. Upon arriving there, however, he becomes embroiled in a web of murder, cover-ups, and prophecy that all leads back to the Bat.
It is soon evident that the truth of Billy Bat's nature is far greater than Kevin could ever guess, spanning millennia and across the world. The Bat is related to an ancient Japanese scroll which is said to enable anyone who possesses it to take rule of the world. The Bat is directly involved with many individuals throughout history such as Jesus Christ, Judas Iscariot, Francis Xavier, Lee Harvey Oswald, Hattori Hanzō, Albert Einstein and Adolf Hitler.
Power of the Verse
Billy Bat is a very powerful series due to the titular bats. Two bats, Black and White, have control over history and time. The Bats originate from a higher dimension (at least 4-D) and describe themselves as the caretakers of humanity. Billy Bat is responsible for the destruction of every parallel version of Earth in the multiverse.
Below the titular character, however, the verse is a weak verse, with ordinary to peak humans, though some have received boosts from Billy Bat.
